F.A.Q. Eye-Pal, Zoom-Ex, and Zoom-Twix QuestionsComputer based products: Eye-Pal, Zoom-Ex and Zoom-Twix:Can I use your products with my Mac computer?Yes, Eye-Pal and Zoom-Ex are now Mac compatible. I installed the software but I have a black screen and the application is saying that it is not detecting any device. What do I do?The "device not being detected" means that the drivers were not installed correctly. See: How to Install Drivers. The keystroke CTRL + an arrow key is not working in the Eye-Pal software. Why?Please make sure that JAWS is either turned off or put to sleep while using the Eye-Pal software. Jaws has certain hot keys that will interfere with the usage of Eye-Pal key strokes. Zoom-Frog camera WILL NOT zoom in or out using the keyboard. Why?Make sure that the 8” cable is connected to the Zoom-Frog camera and to the device. Without this cable, you WILL NOT be able to control zooming with the keyboard. Are 3 mega pixel devices compatible with Eye-Pal 4.0 or Zoom-Office 4.0?No. 3 mp devices are not compatible with 4.0 software, only 5 mp camera devices are. The devices that are compatible will have an (A) as the starting letter for the serial number. The letter (D) indicates a 3 mp camera device. Are 3 mega pixel devices compatible with Zoom-Office 4.1?Yes. 3 mp devices are compatible with 4.1.3 devices starting with the letter (D) in the serial number. How do I read in a foreign language?First, install the foreign language voice. Then, open either the Eye-Pal software or the Zoom-Office software. The foreign voice is located under Application, Settings, then click on the Voice tab. Select the language from the drop-down list. When a book is converted to text, using Zoom-Ex or Zoom-Twix, where is the text file saved?Go to the destination C:\Documents and Settings\Other\My Documents\ZoomOffice\Text and double click on the file you want to open. Can I save an entire book as an audio file (when using EZT)?Yes, with our Mac Compatible products. Our PC based products save one page documents as an audio file. Is there a way to make the “red box” (preview window) go away when using Zoom-Ex or Zoom-Twix?Yes. Go up to Applications and down to Settings. Then click on the Preview Tab and under the Focus Rectangle Border, click the option “None” then click on “OK”. Do ABiSee products work with Windows 7?Yes. I’m using Zoom-Twix. How can I switch from Magnification Live Mode to Capturing Mode?You can switch from Magnification Live (CCTV) Mode to Capturing Mode by pressing the "Y" key. What can I do in Magnification Live Mode when using Zoom-Twix?You will be able to view and magnify text, small objects, labels or pictures placed under the camera. What can I do in Capturing Mode when using Zoom-Twix?In Capturing Mode, you will be able to read printed text placed under the camera, save images, create and save books, and/or add pages.

Mac Compatible products: Eye-Pal and Zoom-Ex:How do I install Eye-Pal or Zoom-Ex on my Mac? Have your administrator password at hand to enter it when prompted. Follow the Wizard. Restart the Mac when prompted; this step cannot be skipped. My camera has stopped working and/or the application freezes.Restart the program by selecting the Application icon from the Tool Bar. My camera has stopped working while scanning documents or a book (Auto Scanning Mode or Manual Mode).Move your hand slowly over the text and the camera will resume scanning (or see above). My Zoom-Ex camera has stopped working while switching from Magnification Mode to Reading Mode and back again (Y) key.Restart the application. Can I demo Eye-Pal SOLO LV as Eye-Pal SOLO ?Yes. My Eye-Pal SOLO played music while starting up, but has not asked me to “Please place my document.” What’s wrong?Make sure that the head with the camera is pushed all the way in, and that the USB is plugged into the top port on the back side of the device. ALSO PLEASE MAKE SURE THE LOGO STICKER HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED!! Without this logo, the camera will not know that the device is ready. Can Eye-Pal SOLO LV keypads be switched or are they programmed to one device?Yes. The keypads can be switched because they are not programmed to one device. Can Eye-Pal SOLO and SOLO LV save a book?Yes, a book can be saved to a flash drive and used on a computer. Turn the gestures command off, then enter Book mode by inserting an external memory device. Converting to text and MP3 takes time depending on how many pages are being converted and what kind of text it is; text only, images, variations of fonts, colors, etc. After the completion of the conversion, take the flash drive out and wait for about 20-25 seconds to enter the Reading mode or reset, using the red triangle on the front panel. Is there more than one voice or language to choose from on the Eye-Pal SOLO or Eye-Pal SOLO LV?Yes. Each device has one female American English voice, one male American English voice, and a female Spanish voice to read Spanish. (Note: each device must have a keypad in order for the voice/language to be changed. See below.) How do you change the voice/language on the Eye-Pal SOLO or Eye-Pal SOLO LV?First, each device must have a keypad. Without a keypad the voice/language can NOT be changed. To change the voice/language, press the Save and Recall buttons together and listen for the voice prompt. You may press as many times as required to reach the desired voice/language.
All Products:Can ABiSee products read currency?No, but we are looking into possibly adding it as a feature in the future. How much do ABiSee products magnify text?Our text can be magnified up to 40 times on Zoom-Ex, Zoom-Twix, and Eye-Pal SOLO LV. Can ABiSee products read newspapers?Yes. Our products can read newspapers easily and accurately. What do ABiSee products do when there is a picture on the page?Our products will “ignore” the picture and continue reading. Do all ABiSee products have OCR (optical character recognition)?Yes, as well as speech output. Can I get other voices for ABiSee products?Yes, other voices are available for our products. Computer based products require the installation of a CD, while the stand-alone devices require the voice to be installed by ABiSee. Can your products read text in Spanish or any other foreign language?Yes. The following additional languages are available: British, Australian and Indian English dialects, Canadian and Parisian French, Castillian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish and Turkish. How do I know if the camera is on or off?Press the Spacebar. You will hear "Camera on" or "Camera off". Press the Spacebar again to toggle the camera settings. How do I know if the camera light is on or off?If you press the Control and L key together on your keyboard, you will hear " Light on " or " Light off ". Press Control and the "L" key again, if needed, to change light settings. How do I know which way to place a document under the camera?It does not matter which way a document is placed under the camera. Zoom-Office will rotate the document automatically so the document is always seen correctly on the computer screen. The magnified line is longer than the width of the screen. Do I have to keep scrolling left and right in order to read the text?No. If the line is longer than the width of the screen, Zoom-Ex will wrap the text, shifting the line breaks. The reformatted magnified lines won't run off the screen, and all you do is scroll down. It seems as if Zoom-Ex reformats the text and breaks the lines to the screen width. Now I want to increase the magnification to make the letters bigger. As a result, will the lines get longer and run off the screen now?No. Your letters will grow, but Zoom-Ex will wrap the text, shifting the line breaks to fit the screen. Can I view magnified pictures with Zoom-Ex?Yes. You can magnify pages with either text or pictures, or both. Can I read the labels on medicine bottles?Yes. You can view any magnified material as a picture. |
